Fishermen: hard working, honest, well informed, politically involved, doomed to extinction.

Since the MAGNUSON-STEVENS FISHERY CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT ACT of 1976 fishing has never been the same. Briefly, it set up fish stocks that were to be reached by a certain date, arbitrary numbers thought up by a team of scientists no doubt. When the Conservation Law foundation (a bunch of tree huggers in suits, just out to get a buck mind you) found that these numbers had not been reached, that's when the fun began. They sued the government, forcing regulation. From Ammendment 5 in 1994 to ammendment 13 happening now, these extreemists have forced many fishermen to retire, and it's looking like ammendment 13 could be the final blow.
